Congratulations to Forty-Five Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifiers from Colorado!

Forty-five residents of Colorado, the Centennial State, have qualified for the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials to be held in Houston, TX on January 14, 2012. Only the state of California can boast of more qualifiers. The “Golden State’ has a population of 37 million ; Colorado’s population is just over 5 million according to the 2010 census.

To qualify for the trials, male athletes must run a qualifying time (sub 2:19 marathon, sub 1:05 half marathon, or sub 28:30 10k (track) during the qualifying window of January 1, 2009 – 30 until 30 days prior to the designated Olympic Trials race.

Female athletes must qualify during the same time period with a qualifying time (sub 2:46 marathon, sub 1:15 half marathon, sub 33:00 10k).

Both male and female athletes must be American citizens. Additional qualification information can be found at USATF.org.

According to the Houston Marathon site, this Olympic Trials race will be the first time ever that the men’s and women’s Olympic Trials Marathon on the same day, at the same site. This exciting and historic event will determine the three men and three women who will represent the United States in the marathon at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
