Thanksgiving Weekend Recap: Thousands Across the State Celebrate With Turkeys and Trotting

Runners earned their turkey this weekend at a vast variety of race offerings across the state. Here’s a recap of some of the weekend’s Thanksgiving Day races.

Thanksgiving Day Run 4M – Fort Collins: Sean Quigley won the men’s race in 18:56. Matthew Tebo and Justin Young took second and third in 19:09 and 19:15.

Adriana Nelson won the women’s race finishing the 4M course in 21:14. Brianne Nelson was second in 21:51; Leaura Thweatt third in 21:53.

Briargate YMCA’s Kaiser Permanent Turkey Trot 5k (Colorado Springs): Adam Rich took first place for the second year in a row in 15:18. Carl Arnold and Kenny Foster were second and third. Shannon Payne won the women’s race, finishing in 18:00 flat. Christie Foster and Jennifer Bremser took second and third.

CU Turkey Trot 5k (Boulder): More than 1,000 came out for this turkey trot. In the men’s field, Ryan Poland  (15:36), Brice Young   (16:10), and Kurt Roeser (16:23) came in first, second and third. Amanda Scott (18:10), Bean Wrenn (18:23) and Tressa Breindel    (18:44) were top three for women.

The Mile High United Way Turkey Trot was Denver’s own 4 mile race, boasting of more than 7,000 finishers. Sean Houseworth was first for the men in 19:14. Matthew Williams (19:25) and Patrick Hunt (20:11) were second and third. Cassie Slade took a convincing first place win for the women in 22:19. Nicole Aish (22;54) was second; Heather Utrata third (24:10).

YMCA Turkey Trot 2011 (Pueblo): Michael Schmidt ran 17:04 to lead the men’s field; Anna Marshall finished in 20:00 flat for the women’s division win.
