Gabriel Small and Amy Schneider should be pleased. Both runners improved upon last year’s performance at the scenic Steamboat Springs Marathon and were rewarded with a win in the male and female divisions of Sunday’s 30th running of the race.

Small turned in a 2:42:41 on the scenic course, besting his 2010 third place finishing time by 10 minutes. Craig’s Todd Trapp was second in 2:51:02; Andrew Maxwell was third in 2:54:12.

Schneider (feature image) also ran a faster time, finishing in 3:10:11 and won the race for the second year in a row. Becca Ward of Washington State was second place in 3:23:18; Colorado Springs’ Stephanie Meredith was third in 3:29:11.

The front runners of the women’s half marathon field were tightly packed. Caroline Szuch of Evergreen won the race in 1:30:16. Deirdre Pepin, running on home turf in Steamboat Springs, took second (1:30:39) and Lakewood’s Carrie Zografos was third in 1:31:38.

Boulder’s William Edwards won the men’s half in 1:15:30, nearly four minutes ahead of master’s runner Todd Straka (1:19:01). Denver’s Daniel O’Connell was third in 1:21:59.

The top three men in the 10k were Nick Sunseri (34:15), Patrick Barrett (39:04) and Shawn Scholl (41:07). Granby’s Gretta Fosha led the females running 42:40. Steph Scholl was second (43:08) and Eileen McCann was third (43:29)
