Spring-like weather and RRCA Championship competitors contributed to fast times at Saturday’s Snowman Stampede Five and Ten.
In the 10 mile championship race, 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifier, Tyler McCandless won in 52:09. Matt Thull (52:50) and Aaron Carrizales (53:44) took second and third place. Boulder’s Katie Blackett, a 2004 and 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifier, took the championship title for the women, running 1:02:26. A talented mountain runner and relative newbie to the road running scene, Kim Dobson, trailed by less than 30 seconds, running 1:02:53. Heather Utratta came in third, besting her own time on the course from last month’s Frosty’s Frozen 10 Mile.
Charles Hillig took a strong win in the 5 mile race running 25:30. Hillig was the RRCA 5 Mile Champion at last month’s Frosty’s Frozen. Jason Glowney (28:04) and Thomas Brenner (28:34) followed. Scotland’s Susan Partridge, a 2:35 marathoner, flew through the 5 mile course in 28:44 placing first for the women and fourth overall. Second and third place went to Kylee Schuler (31:40) and Annie Howley (32:08).
The Snowman Stampede was the third and final race of this year’s Winter Distance Series.
