La Sportiva Mountain Running Team announces new team members Anita Ortiz and Anton Krupicka for the 2007 season.
Anita Ortiz says she runs “to smell the trees and see the sunrise.” But don’t be fooled, Ortiz is a first rate competitor with a fierce will to win. Always a runner, Ortiz is a Colorado mother of four who found her way back to racing after the birth of her twin sons and has been winning races ever since.
Ortiz’s resume is heavy with gold. Career highlights boast being the United States Mountain Running Champion for 2002, 2003 and 2004, Mountain Running World Champion, Masters in 2004, USA Track and Field Female Mountain Runner of the Year in 2002 and 2003 and USATF Female Masters Mountain Runner of the Year in 2004.
Also joining the team is Anton Krupicka. “Tony came out of literally nowhere to dominate the prestigious Leadville Trail 100 in 2006, running the second fastest time in history for the race,” said La Sportiva Mountain Running Team manager, and team member, Buzz Burrell.
“It’s amazing for such a young runner to dominate his first ‘ultra’ race ever.” (An ultra is any running race longer than a marathon [26-miles]).
At the start of February, 2007, Krupicka proved that his Leadville win was no fluke by smoking the competition at the Rocky Raccoon 100-mile-race in Huntsville, Texas. He bested the field by winning the event by a huge margin of one hour and 19 minutes.
